S. African Parliament Speaker re

CAPE TOWN, July 2 (Xinhua) -- South African Parliament Speaker Baleka Mbete has set August 8 as the new date for a vote of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma, Parliament said on Sunday.

Following further consultations with political parties in Parliament and with the Executive, Mbete has decided to revise the date, Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said.

Mbete previously set August 3 for the vote.

There was an oversight during the initial consultations and determination of the originally announced date, which overlooked the fact that a cabinet meeting has already been set for that week, Mothapo said.

Mothapo said Mbete has also set July 14 as the deadline for political parties to submit their views regarding their preferred means of voting on this particular motion, that is, whether by a secret or open ballot.

The Speaker will make her decision regarding the appropriate voting procedure before the scheduled debate on August 8, said the spokesperson.

Mbete said on Friday that Parliament was considering a request from大車專用行車紀錄器推薦 the opposition that the vote be conducted through secret ballot.

The motion, initially submitted on March 30 and scheduled for April 18, was postponed indefinitely at the request of大車專用行車紀錄器安裝 opposition parties, pending a court application to force a secret ballot in the hope that African National Congress (ANC) MPs would be encouraged to vote against Zuma.

The Constitutional Court ruled on June 22 that Mbete is empowered to decide whether a vote of no confidence in Zuma should be conducted by secret ballot.

Opposition parties fielded another vote of no confidence against Zuma in April after Zuma reshuffled the cabinet, sacking Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and other ministers.
